The Proposal of the Humanist Movement:
Today we see enormous transformation and serious unrest all over our planet. Perhaps it will lead to tremendous violence, or perhaps it will take an interesting and positive direction. What is clear is that change will not depend on the powers that be, for they have demonstrated their disregard for the human being.
In the face of this global personal and social crisis, members of the Humanist Movement ask themselves: What kind of world do I want to live in? What am I willing to do to create those conditions, for myself and for others?
In a world that is becoming more dehumanized everyday, we find that dehumanization is also taking place inside of us. We do not believe in the proposals which pretend that a meaningful life can be had by turning one's back on the terrible crisis facing huge populations world-wide, nor do we feel fulfilled by proposals for social change that do not acknowledge everyone's need to humanise themselves by clarifying their own lives.
Humanist clearly understand that one's liberation is tied to the liberation of others and therefore aspire to carry out meaningful social change and personal change simultaneously.
To this end, the Humanist Movement creates neighbourhood centres, newspapers, arts groups and political projects like the Humanist Party and we take these opportunities to reflect on ways to change ourselves to ensure that the direction of our lives is towards greater coherence, greater strength and joy.
